The Daddy Mountain
By Jules Feiffer
The Daddy Mountain, is a tale of a little girl and her tall father. This is a story that begins at her daddy’s toes. "Watch me," she begins, looking up at a pair of long legs in trousers and loafers. "I'm getting ready to climb the Daddy Mountain." She climbs up her father until she is balanced on top of his head.
She gives advice on making her climb a success: "Remember, the Daddy Mountain must wear a shirt. Because if you grab hold of his skin, he'll get mad." She shows you step-by-step-exactly how she does it. First, she takes her Daddy and makes him stand very still. Then, balancing herself on his shoe, she wraps her arms tightly around a leg and starts her perilous ascent to the summit. Grabbing an ear, and then some hair, she swings one foot, then the other, onto the Daddy's shoulders. She pulls herself to the top and shouts out to her mother to come quick.
When the little girl reaches her goal (as shown on a vertical foldout), her father announces, "No problem, she's fine," and seems proud of his daughter's feat, while her mother's reaction is to faint. The pictures most definitely capture all of her emotions.
This book is full of action and humor, and illustrates the concept of Dad as jungle gym. "I have to be brave," says the little girl at the foot of the Daddy Mountain.

Pinkalicious
By Victoria Kann and Elizabeth Kann
I have not written a book review since high school ( partly since I never have any time to read anymore!) However, this is the perfect book for this time of year. Pinkalicious by Victoria Kann and Elizabeth Kann, is a wonderful , (and beautiful) book for all the little girls who love the colour pink!
The story is about one particular little girl who is spending a rainy day at home with her mom. Her mom decides that they will bake cupcakes together and they decide to make them pink. Of course the little girl eats too many and of course she wants more ( as would any three year old), and as with any three year old she does not listen to her mom who by far has the best line ever “you get what you get and you don’t get upset!” But she does eat one more so that when she wakes up she has turned pink!
This book has become the absolute favourite in my house. We have read it every night for the past month ( sometimes if I am lucky I sneak in another book) and our favourite activity to the absolute delight of my daughters class is to bake pink cupcakes at home. In case you need to know Duncan Hines vanilla cake mix with a lot of red food colouring will do the trick.
I hope your daughters enjoy this as much as my family and myself do. If you have any books you would like to see announced in our monthly newsletter let us know at info@themommieslounge.com
